Therapy is one positive change that I made in my life

Describe one positive change you have made in your life.

I’ve been going to the psychologist for psychotherapy for the past 10 years.

And I think it is the most positive change I ever made in my life.

I learnt how to accept myself as I am.

I learn to control my anger to some extent till now.

I learnt how to make good decisions.

I learnt how to be realistic.

I learnt the value of education.

I learnt how to manage my time.

I learnt how to prioritise my own happiness.

I learnt to believe in myself.

Although I still make errors and mistakes. But I’m learning from psychotherapy regularly.

Although it’s nothing to be proud of because you’re supposed to stop therapy when you can deal with your problems alone.

My problems have persisted. And I’m working on it.

I’m glad you read this line. Thanks a lot!

Sometimes you need to be realistic

Life is hard and people are not always good.

And life is not always fairy tales and rainbows.

If you don’t study hard for your exams, you will not get a career you wished for.

If you don’t lower your standard of living and not save money, you won’t have any investments or emergency funds.

If you don’t eat healthy, you will get ill.

If you don’t take your medications on time, you will not recover from your mental illness as expected.

Sorry if it’s hard to hear but that’s the truth.

I’m glad you read this line. Thanks a lot!

Is making mistakes in life worth it?

I know I need to change.

Because I was wrong all this time.

When I was a teenager I ignored friends who genuinely cared for me and chased people who were too arrogant to be my friend.

In school and college I focused on the wrong sets of values – marks, college name, too much all round development activities instead of knowledge, focus and hardwork.

Truth be told I was arrogant and a lot more selfish than I am today.

But it was also not entirely my fault because it is a mental illness.

Now I feel like I made these mistakes in life unknowingly and I am feeling regret.

But if I think that way, I would be wrong.

Because people don’t regret things they did, but things they didn’t.

I actually did stuff. I failed multiple times in life. I lost friends. I messed up big time.

But that gave me wisdom.

I know the value of simplicity, humility and a realistic perspective because I had none of these values until a few years ago.

So yes, making mistakes in life is worth it 100%.

I’m glad you read this line. Thanks a lot!

Pain is the greatest motivator

I’ve met and known people in my life who did great things not because they could do it but because they had to do it.

But why is that the case? Why is pain the greatest motivator instead of pleasure?

Business

All my life I wanted to start a business.

And I did start a business after high school.

But I had to close it because of my unique circumstances.

But I wasn’t doing well in that business when I ran it.

I lacked motivation and I was lazy.

I started the business because I was scared of my responsibility for studying for graduation.

At that time I was thinking about dropping from regular college and I hadn’t yet taken admission in an online degree course.

And I was lost.

Long story short, I closed that business because of my unique circumstances.

Mostly because I felt anxious about running the business.

Graduation

But then after I closed the business I had to study for graduation.

After a lot of listening to sad songs and realistic advice from YouTube, I studied for my graduation and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree.

It was at this time I felt my beliefs about the world were becoming more realistic and my mind was getting calmer.

Beliefs like “A degree is just a piece of paper” just went out the window and I realised that a degree is “more valuable than a million dollars”.

Beliefs like “psychologists don’t know anything” was replaced by “psychologists are trained professionals who know what they are doing. Their advice is backed by scientific research.”

I score 70% in my graduation which is good. (I am proud of myself no matter what because I had BPAD and I did it in spite of that.)

And this success in my graduation was not fueled by avoidance but pain.

Conclusion

If I didn’t graduate from college, I can’t get even the most basic corporate job.

Without a job there’s no income because business is not easy for most people.

I guess most of the startups fail within the first few years.

And I am not from a rich family.

This realisation was painful and I would sleep for hours during the day but one day I realised that I need to fight for my highest possibility.

And so I did. And with God’s grace I won.

So actually there is no pleasure or pain in reality. They are just perceptions of the mind.

And sometimes the truth is painful.

I guess I don’t know the scientific reason why pain is more powerful than pleasure. I guess you can tell me in the comments section.

But I hope my story shed some light on this question.

I’m glad you read this line. Thanks a lot!
